| TrueRassic Park is centered around four primary characters, one of whom is a live character and three of whom are puppets. The central character in TruthQuest® is Doc. Doc is a live character and should be played by someone who is comfortable being in front of children and acting a little silly. The other three characters, Perry, Becky, and Dr. Deceit, are intended to be puppet characters, and directions for making or acquiring similar puppets are included with the VBS materials, though live actors could also play those characters. Here, then, are the characters of TrueRassic Park: |
Doc is a creation scientist who knows that God created our universe just as it says in the Bible, and that science is simply the study of how this wonderful world works. Doc teaches Biblical principles using illustrations from science. He emphasizes an understanding of the scientific method so the children will be able to recognize that concepts such as Darwinism are not legitimate science. Doc teaches kids to embrace science, understanding that true science can add to their appreciation of God’s great wisdom and power, inspiring wonder and thankfulness in worshiping their Creator.

Intended to be a puppet character, Perry is a dinosaur (a parasaurolophus, to be exact) who was brought to TrueRassic Park by Doc's time machine. Doc brought Perry through time to TrueRassic Park in order to learn more about dinosaurs. Perry is a child dinosaur, not fully grown, and not fully aware of all the curiosities that we humans have about dinosaurs. Perry comes from a time not long after the great flood of Genesis chapters 6-9. He knows that most of his kind were lost in the flood but is not yet aware that the few dinosaurs who survived on Noah's ark would soon vanish as well. Perry is familiar with people and has several "people friends." It is thought by some creation scientists that the parasaurolophus might have been capable of breathing fire. This is due to the large cranial crest on the parasaurolophus' head, which is hollow and directly connected to the nasal passages. Perry himself does not know if this is the case, however, because he has not yet matured.

A sweet but hyperactive little girl, Becky is full of energy and enthusiasm, often making onlookers wonder whether she's eaten entirely too much sugar recently. Becky's innocence and sweetness are offset by her high energy level and enthusiasm, and her personality is just a bit off-center. Becky asks the questions which the children in your VBS program might ask, and she learns from the TrueRassic Park experience along with the rest of the kids. Becky is intended to be a puppet character, though a live actor could play her as well.

The arch villain of TruthQuest®, Dr. Deceit is constantly scheming to deceive Doc and the rest of the TruthQuest® characters. In TrueRassic Park, Dr. Deceit does this by sabotaging Doc's time machine, disguising himself as a scientist and even a dinosaur so that he can carry out his plans without being caught. Dr. Deceit fills the role of attempting to teach the kids the so-called "proven facts" of the beginnings of the universe and evolution as Doc works to set the record straight. Dr. Deceit is intended to be played as a puppet character, though you may choose to use a live actor instead. Incidentally, nobody is quite sure whether Dr. Deceit is a real doctor.
